So what can you do to stop this? It’s not as difficult as it sounds! Here are some simple steps to start with.<\/p>\n\n\n\n
Limescale is a mineral scale, which forms when there is a high concentration of calcium and magnesium ions in hard water. These hard water minerals are deposited on the surfaces of pipes, tanks, boilers etc.<\/p>\n\n\n\n
Once formed, these deposits are highly resistant to washing away with regular water. The best solution for removing limescale is with an acid or chelating agent applied by a professional plumber.<\/p>\n\n\n\n
Limescale deposits in domestic properties are not only unsightly but can lead to reduced flow rates in pipes and reduced efficiency in appliances that rely on these pipes.<\/p>\n\n\n\n
Steps to Prevent Limescale Build-Up<\/p>\n\n\n\n
Lime scale prevention starts with caring for your dishwasher. Leaving it dirty will only lead to more limescale build-up later on. Wash out any food particles that have accumulated in the appliance\u2019s filter every week or so. Use a good detergent, which you should also do every few months or so, and avoid phosphate detergents. Run it through a short cycle without anything in the dishwasher if the tank needs cleaning out as well as stirring up any concentrated limescale deposits at the bottom of it with an old toothbrush before<\/p>\n\n\n\n
