How is CCTV actually useful in securing your home?

CCTV System

Outside of being able to monitor your premises, CCTV cameras are an excellent deterrent for burglars in Ireland. Just like seeing a mounted alarm system, an intruder seeing cameras may decide that it’s easier and safer to move elsewhere down the road. It’s much better to prevent intrusion than dealing with it after it’s occurred. Damage to properties can be significant.

Installing a CCTV system will bring much improved security

CCTV is a great security measure, as it often deters criminals from breaking into your home if they are simply looking for an opportunistic target. The footage captured using these camera systems can be used as evidence in court, helping to keep your property and belongings safe. It also helps the police identify criminals. A CCTV system is also relatively easy to maintain once it’s set up. A camera may need to be cleaned or checked once in a while, but other than that, it’s easy to monitor your home and family from a distance. Using modern apps and monitoring solutions is very common for quality systems.

Burglaries in Ireland are on the rise

According to Gardai data – Burglary has increased in the first half of 2022 compared to the same period in 2021 (+33%) but has trended significantly downwards over the long term. Major factors in this downward trend are the commencement of Operation Thor (November 2015) and the onset of the Covid-19 pandemic (April 2022). When compared to 2019 (Jan – Jun), reported residential burglary in 2022 (Jan – Jun) was 36% lower and burglary elsewhere was 44% lower

Whether you need to monitor the activity of people inside or outside of your home, security cameras are an excellent way to prevent unauthorised entry. The cameras can be connected to different parts of your home, making it difficult for intruders to sneak in. They can also be used to keep an eye on the elderly or children inside.

Closed-circuit television (CCTV) is a type of security technology that records video in an area closed to the public, which is often a private home or business premises.  These systems can be used for many different applications, including traffic monitoring, building security, and medical facilities. Although they’re generally regarded as being an excellent security tool, privacy concerns are often raised about their use. For these reasons, the Information Commissioner’s Office (ICO) and Surveillance Camera Commissioner (SCC) have taken steps to ensure that CCTV systems are safe and efficient.

Another advantage of CCTV is that it’s a great deterrent for crime. People who walk through the public areas are under the public eye, so closed circuit TV cameras aren’t likely to catch someone picking their nose. Instead, the video surveillance helps law enforcement catch criminals before they can get a chance to do anything.
